Reliable Forage for Harsh Climates
Challenge: Drought Stress
Solution: Coated Grasses
In South Africa’s warmer and more variable regions, subtropical grasses are essential to ensure ground cover, forage availability, and drought resilience. However, farmers frequently face challenges with inconsistent establishment, low feed quality under poor management, and seasonal fluctuations in growth.
Barenbrug SA’s range of subtropical grasses—including Smutsfinger, Rhodes grass (Endura, Katambora), Blue Buffalo, and Weeping Lovegrass—are developed or selected for their adaptability, palatability, and persistence. Endura Rhodes offers higher leaf-to-stem ratios and is ideal for both grazing and hay, while Smutsfinger maintains feed quality well into winter and tolerates a wide range of soil types.
Seed in this range is coated with Barenbrug’s Yellow Jacket biostimulant to improve germination and seedling survival in tough environments. Whether planted for erosion control, hay production, or grazing, these grasses offer flexibility and reliability with good grazing management and fertilisation.
